| Valley Community for Recycling Solutions
is a non-profit organization devoted to establishing recycling as a part
of daily life in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Our goal is to provide
consistent and comprehensive recycling opportunities in our community.
We had our humble beginnings with "One Stop" recycling day events held every three months in local parking lots. We now offer regular drop-off hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for household recyclables; and Tuesday through Friday we work with local businesses to provide a convenient time to drop-off their recycling. We also provide educational materials to local schools, information about the benefits of recycling and are advocates for best waste management practices. We share our vision with over 3000 supporters, volunteers and members. VCRS operations are currently located in a 'recycled' welding shop, located near the corner of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and 49th State Street, which serves as our temporary recycling center. The center makes it possible for VCRS to collect, process, bale and store recyclable material, which in turn allows us to lower transportation costs and increase our efficiency. Besides the day to day operations we are also conducting "Raise the Roof for Recycling", a capital fundraising campaign to raise money to build a permanent 'Community Recycling Center'. The new center will function as a collection site and processing plant for recyclable items and be the foundation for building a sustainable recycling program in our community. When the doors open (we hope soon!) we will handle thousands of pounds of materials a day. The center's capacity to handle large volumes of materials will allow local commercial waste-haulers to expand their services and offer curbside recycling to their clients. In the future VCRS will enlarge the recycling program to include drop-off sites for our outlying communities. We have big goals and we hope you share them with us. Thanks for Recycling!
