RECYCLING CENTER VISITS
Tours for adult groups and Field Trips for both school age and adult groups.
Bring your class or group to visit the recycling center. View the processing floor out our observation windows. Learn where resources come from, what they are made into, both as virgin resources and recovered resources. Find out the economic and environmental cost of throwing our precious resources into the landfill. And the exciting local economic development opportunities made possible from the resources captured from our waste stream. Come visit our expanding outdoor education area, reminding us what we are trying to preserve by recycling.

VCRS FIELD TRIP POLICIES
o Two or three options of dates and times you’d like to have the Field Trip. All Field Trip scheduling is tentative until approved by the VCRS Education Specialist.
o Age or school grade range of participants.
o The total number of participants, including teachers, parents, chaperones and siblings. Maximum of 35 individuals.
- $25 per group for Field Trips. This fee may be paid by cash, check, credit card or purchase order, and must be received one week prior to the scheduled visit.
- Field Trips to VCRS may be scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, the first to begin no earlier than 10:30a.m., the last to begin no later than 4:30p.m. In special cases, and if an instructor is available, Field Trips may also be scheduled for Saturdays.
- Field Trip participants are advised to schedule a visit to the Mat-Su Borough Central Landfill to get the whole picture of the waste and resource cycle. Landfill field trips NOT AVAILABLE till SPRING 2016. School groups 8th grade and younger that have a bus can tour the landfill on the bus. Groups 9th grade and older can schedule an in depth, comprehensive field trip. Contact the MSB Central Landfill at 861-7603.
ATTENTION TEACHERS – RECYCLING CURRICULUM KIT (5 – 90 min. lesson plans)
VCRS offers for loan a 5-day recycling curriculum kit developed to teach 4th through 8th graders*. This curriculum meets many Alaska state content standards in several subjects. It can also be extended to more than 5 days. The kit covers the cycle of resources from their virgin state to their endless potential, and teaches the challenges related to burying our waste resources. The kit challenges students to think about how we can reduce our waste and think greener.
