For VCRS, December represents special anniversary moments:
- December of 1997, the first meeting in Palmer of a group of folks interested in regular recycling opportunities being made available in the Mat-Su. That meeting turned out to be the beginning of our VCRS recycling program.
- In December of 2002 we opened the doors to our first official recycling center at the old Moffitt Homestead on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
- And in December 2010 we moved into our permanent recycling center located where we envisioned a structure that is an organic representation of the programs we provide to our wonderful Mat-Su community.
The Mat-Su Borough also recognizes December 21st, in honor of VCRS, as Matanuska-Susitna Borough Recycle Day.
We have enjoyed a few laughs about the fact that many of our anniversaries are on or near the shortest day of the year. A sign of the tough dedicated community recyclers we are!
